Currently RSVP has over three hundred fifty active volunteers who perform a variety of important work in our community. In 2010, our volunteers logged some 43,500 hours helping out more than 50 local agencies.
Some of our volunteers tutor and read to children during the school day and in after school programs. Some staff the information desk at Norwalk City Hall. RSVP volunteers help at Norwalk Reads Book Distributions. RSVP’s D2R2 Program (Dogs to Read to) has been a collaboration with the East Norwalk Library for almost two years and has expanded to more than half a dozen other libraries and children’s programs.
RSVP volunteers work as travel counselors at the Darien Welcome Center. In 2010 these volunteers assisted over 86,000 visitors to Connecticut. The RSVP mailing teams in Wilton and Norwalk processed mail for many area not-for–profit agencies.
RSVP volunteers hand-craft items such as hats, mittens, scarves and blankets which are donated to area agencies such as the NEON Child Development Program, Norwalk Community Health Center and Family & Children’s Agency, for the children and adults they serve.
Volunteers also collaborate with the Norwalk Tree Alliance to assist in environmental preservation. Our Medical Transportation Program gave over 600 rides last year to seniors in Westport and Weston. RSVP volunteers teach classes and lead groups at the various senior centers in our area. RSVP assists in teaching the public about Emergency Preparedness.
